Review of the action movie "On the crest of a wave" (Point Break) (2015)

The first thing to clarify is that the new "Point Break" has nothing to do with the original movie starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Although there are extreme guys here and there, surfing, waves, but these are completely different films, so there is no need to compare them.

Modern "Point Break" is just a set of beautiful pictures, tricks that seem so crazy and impossible, which can only be compared with "Fast and Furious" (the robbery with diamonds immediately reminded Furious 7, where they jumped from skyscraper to skyscraper). After all, the director of the tape, Erickson Kor, was the cameraman on the set of the same "Fast and Furious", so you can immediately see where the legs grow from.

They decided not to bother much with the plot here. Our glorious boy band is robbing banks not for their own purposes, but in order to change the world and draw humanity's attention to the problems of Mother Earth. This is the "philosophy of the extreme".

The script itself is absolutely full of holes and meaningless from the very beginning to the final end. During the viewing, I repeatedly asked questions from the series: what, how, why, why? And then I realized that this is exactly the case when you just need to enjoy the spectacle, a beautiful picture and not think about the logic of the plot, especially if it is completely absent here.

Another problem with the movie is that it doesn't look like an action movie. The characters talk to each other, hang out on a yacht, or somewhere, and then celebrate another extreme trick. The tricks are just very spectacular and effective, although not too clever, but their conversations are extremely tedious. In addition, many events in the film make absolutely no sense, for example, the fight scene in Paris (hello, Fight Club), the strange girl in some episodes, the major financing cruises, etc.

Acting work in the film is very scarce. Johnny Utah, played by Australian Luke Bracey, looks like a playboy taken from a store window who doesn't know what to do or what to actually play. In such films, when the script doesn't shine, the actors can pull the picture to a certain extent, but this is not the case.

Bracey's desire to portray himself as a tough guy wasn't enough to keep the tension going throughout the film. The friendship between Yuta and Bodhi was also very unconvincing. I don't even want to compare it with the original, so as not to shed a tear.

The only thing worth praising is the very beautiful shooting and, above all, the incredible stunts. Numerous chases, a scene of flying down a mountain, snowboarding, diving, climbing a waterfall in Venezuela, etc. - filmed very beautifully and really impressive. The film was shot in 11 countries (Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Berlin, France, Mexico, Venezuela, French Polynesia, India and the USA) on four continents, where real pros were involved: star stuntmen and sports stars. And here the guys have a lot of respect. What they're doing there is something with something. But unfortunately, all the advantages of the picture end there.

What is the result? Extremely ridiculous, but beautiful. If you watch "Point Break", then only on a big screen and with good sound. While watching, it is advisable to stock up on beer, completely disable your ability to think and enjoy the picture. With this approach, a movie can even be enjoyed.
